El-b was highly influential in the forming of the Dubstep , and even gave inspiration to the likes of Skream, Benga and Burial.
El-b was even a visitor to Big Apple Records, which is well known as the birth place of the genre we bang out all day long!
He was also part of garage duo Groove Chronicles. If you know your garage you will definetly know ‘Stonecold’ by Groove Chronicles:
How do you think Dubstep has influenced the music scene?
Dubstep hasn’t seemed to influence other forms of music as much as Jungle/Drum & Bass did in the 90s.Infact I’ve probably heard that most dubstep ideas are used in Drum and Bass these days! Ha
What makes you enjoy listening to Dubstep?
Good strong clear FAT PRODUCTION, or just a good groove, or if possible…. both together! I don’t listen to dubstep in my free time, mostly hip-hop soul and salsa.
What do you think about the big changes in Dubstep over the years?
The only changes I saw were an improvement of production by all… all and a few new styles here and there along the way. I think its great having something for everybody within many different styles of Dubstep…. Hard, extra hard, full vocal, commercial, grime, smooth, groovy, 2 step, ambient and more!
As a DJ/Producer what equipment do you use and why?
I used to use a PC with cubase. Now days we all use iMacs, Macbooks and G5s. Its important to stay up to date with your tools.
Do you have any forth coming releases?
Ghost records has alot of releases for 2012. The label has grown with the joining of 3 new artists, all of which are due for release in 2012. Plus featured colaborations with overseas producers and an Album/LP titled ‘Ghost-Chaser’ coming soon.
Who are your main influences?
Probably not alot of dubstep producers thats for sure. I get my ideas from other music.
Who are your favourite Dubstep producers?
Producers such as TRG, Kromestar, Sukh Knight, Coki, Bar 9. Rob Sparx, Vigilante, Zed Bias, Caski, Stinkahbell, Enigma Dubs etc…I don’t really have one, I just like who ever has done the latest banger thats got me for the week.
Who is your favourite Dj of all time?
Any DJ thats put the crowd first and doesn’t come with an MC that thinks we all came to listen to him lol!
If you could give any advice to upcoming producers or DJs what would it be?
Don’t pay too much attention to others and what they are making. Be inspired but DO NOT COPY IT! Keep your production and your writing simple. The biggest hits are all basic. My moto has always been to keep things strong and basic… Keep it clear and catchy.
Big up to El-b for the short interview and make sure you watch out for Ghost Records in 2012! Your resident badman – Kaze
